🎓 How to use this tool
    1. Pick the rack size, width and depth, and choose floor-standing or wall-mount. The load rating switches to a typical value (600 kg floor or 60 kg wall), so change it to your rack's datasheet figure.
    2. Add each device. Pick a type to fill in a typical height, depth, weight and power, then edit the name and figures from the device datasheet.
    3. Press ⚡ Auto-arrange. The UPS and heavy kit go to the bottom, the ODF goes to the top, and each switch gets a patch panel and cable manager above it.
    4. Fine-tune: type a Pos U, drag devices in the drawing (desktop) or use ▲ ▼ (mobile). Overlaps and devices outside the rack turn red.
    5. Read the tiles: U fill, recommended size at your spare %, weight vs rating, power and heat in BTU/h, and the depth check.
    6. Export the elevation as PNG for drawings and submittals, save the project, or print / save as PDF.

    Tips & common mistakes

    • Keep 25–30% of the U space free. Racks always grow, and cramped racks run hot.
    • Heavy UPS and battery packs go at the bottom to keep the centre of gravity low. Never wall-mount a UPS heavier than the wall bracket and wall can safely hold.
    • A 600 mm deep cabinet will not take most servers (≈ 650–750 mm). Check depth before ordering.
    • For heat, count what the device dissipates in the rack. PoE power sent to cameras is dissipated at the cameras, so using the switch's full input is conservative.
    • Fill unused U with blanking panels so hot exhaust doesn't loop back to the front.

Standards & assumptions: 19″ rack per EIA-310 / IEC 60297 (1U = 44.45 mm, 482.6 mm panel width). Cabling space practice per TIA-569 / ISO/IEC 14763-2. Heat: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. Device sizes, weights, power, load ratings and the 100 mm clearance are typical values. The result is for guidance only and must be verified against the manufacturer's data and local code.
